Condensation Control in Roofs: What Used to Work, and Still Does... and What Used to Work, but Doesn't Anymore
Thursday, May 19, 2022, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM PDT
Category: 2022 Member Meetings

Approaches to condensation control in roof systems have evolved in both code and practice. While some older ideas on roof venting are still applicable to modern construction some are no longer appropriate. Both vented and unvented assemblies can be successful depending on conditions and materials. Christine Williamson will review successes and failures and provide best practices for use in current projects.

Christine Williamson has spent her career in building science forensics, discovering why buildings fail, and working with owners, architects, and builders to remedy the problems. She is the founder of the Instagram account @BuildingScienceFightClub, an educational project that teaches architects about building science and construction. Christine also offers architects courses on building science and construction at BuildingScienceFightClub.com. She graduated from Princeton University and received her Master's of Architecture from NewSchool of Architecture + Design. She is past chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 1.12, Moisture Management in Buildings, and is a frequent lecturer on building science at universities and professional conferences.
